In a race that will go down as one of the best in NASCAR’s long and storied history, Tony Stewart won Sunday’s Ford 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Homestead-Miami Speedway and clinched his third Sprint Cup championship.

Stewart, who led four times for 65 laps in the No. 14 Office Depot/Mobil 1 Chevrolet Impala for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), defeated Carl Edwards by 1.306 seconds to score his fifth win of the season and his third in 13 career Sprint Cup starts at Homestead. Read More »

The Chase For The Sprint Cup And IMIS 2011

What a great Chase to the Sprint Cup Championship. With only 1 race remaining, Homestead, only 3 points separate Carl Edwards and IMIS partner, Tony Stewart. Smoke has brought his “A” game to the Chase, winning 4 out of 9 races so far. I don’t think anyone can dispute the huge amount of talent Tony has. He can win in anything. He’s proven that in sprint cars, midgets, modifieds, late models, Indy Cars, and NASCAR. He took a ride in a TORC Series off road truck just before his win at Chicagoland in September. I’m sure that will be his next adventure. Good luck to Smoke from the entire IMIS staff. Read More »

INDIANAPOLIS (Nov. 4, 2011) – Two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Tony Stewart will lead a team of NASCAR drivers who will compete against a team of INDYCAR drivers in the inaugural Indy Karting Classic on Sunday, Dec. 11, at Conseco Fieldhouse in downtown Indianapolis.

The Indy Karting Classic is a one-day festival of karting that will bring the third annual International Motorsports Industry Show (IMIS) to a close. IMIS is a three-day trade show featuring seminars, conferences and hundreds of exhibitors showcasing the latest and greatest in racing parts and technology. The third annual IMIS event is scheduled for Dec. 8-10 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.

Now in its third year, the 2011 edition of IMIS marks the debut of the Indy Karting Classic, which features more than five different karting classes competing throughout the day, culminating with the NASCAR vs. INDYCAR race. In addition, throughout the day, the Conseco Fieldhouse concourse will be filled with karting industry displays manned by representatives from karting tracks, manufacturers and suppliers.

“Competitive karting remains one of the most pure forms of motorsports, so I’m looking forward to getting in a kart and racing some of the INDYCAR guys,” said Stewart, who has World Karting Association and International Karting Association titles on his resume. “The Indy Karting classic is shaping up to be a cool day for karting enthusiasts. It should be a fun spectator event, as well.”

Joining Stewart on the NASCAR team are fellow Sprint Cup driver A.J. Allmendinger and current NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Austin Dillon, who is the grandson of Sprint Cup car owner Richard Childress. More NASCAR drivers and the INDYCAR team of drivers will be announced in the near future.

Spectator tickets for the racing program are $15 for single admission or $30 for the Family 4-Pack. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com, or on the day of the event at the Conseco Fieldhouse box office. It’s hard to believe that that third annual International Motorsports Industry Show is just a few short weeks away! The IMIS team has been hard at work for the past 11+ months at providing the platform for a great event where the world of motorsports will convene to network, establish connections, and do great business!

As I attend other meetings and tradeshow’s I often find myself behind the eight ball in pre-planning my experience while at the event. And oftentimes I find out about certain activities that I would have been interested in after the fact. If I would have taken 30 minutes to do some pre-planning I would find that I would have gotten more out of my experience at that particular show.

Our lives are so hectic and time is precious, but I encourage you to take some time and visit the IMIS website if you haven’t done so yet. I guarantee there is at least one thing going on in conjunction with the show that you were unaware of! If you know all there is to know then I owe you a beer on me. Here is a just a sampling  of some of the things going on at IMIS: Read More »

From The Kansas Speedway – Inside The Industry With Chris

I’ve had the opportunity to travel to some fantastic venues the past few weeks. Kansas City was full of excitement for the NASCAR race, the 4th event of the Chase. The weather was warm for October and skies were clear. Kansas City is always one of our favorite stops as we travel to promote the IMIS event. It’s a beautiful facility and definitely one of the best maintained on the NASCAR circuit. During this trip, we signed Austin Dillon for the Indy Karting Classic. We are building quite the list of drivers for this race, held at Conseco Fieldhouse on Sunday, December 11.

The race was dominated by Jimmie Johnson and the Hendrick Motorsports #48. Hats off to Jimmie and his talented crew chief, Chad Knaus. This team has truly created a Dynasty in American Motorsport.

With the race behind us, I then headed on a Qantas flight to Brisbane, Australia to meet with some potential exhibitors for the show. It proved to be a very successful 6 days down under. Australia is a sleeper in terms of racing. The V8 Supercar Series is the top level but they also race sprint cars, midgets, drag, and off road.

Now I am off to Talladega for another great NASCAR race.  I am sure I will have some great stories about this event in my next blog as the Chase comes closer to the end.

The IMIS event continues to grow and we are filling our expanded space at the beautiful Indiana Convention Center. We look forward to the brand new building we will occupy this December. Let us show you why “Indy is Racing.”

On behalf of myself and the entire IMIS staff, we would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the family of Dan Wheldon. For all that knew Dan, he was a very happy and caring human being. He will be remembered as not only a great race driver, but a fun-loving individual that created joy with his presence. He was truly a racing legend that will be missed by racers and fans alike.
