Ryan Newman Foundation Heads Up Relief Efforts for Displaced Animals Across the Southeast

 The tornadoes that ripped through the Southeastern United States on April 27 are some of the worst in recent history. Many communities across six states have been devastated, with many lives destroyed, particularly in Alabama.  As a result, the Greater Birmingham (Ala.) Humane Society (GBHS) has been tasked by the Emergency Management Agency to help with relief efforts through services provided by the shelter. 

 The GBHS is coordinating transfers from Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Pleasant Grove, Ala., as well as surrounding areas to help accommodate the high number of displaced animals. They agency is also providing assistance to Jefferson County (Ala.) Animal Control lost and found pets through a GBHS volunteer hotline and assistance in the field, while also providing emergency relief to injured horses at Mount Olive (Ala.) Rescue Barn. Read More »
